Quotes by Schubert

Schubert spent most of his short life in Vienna, where he could see all his friends and family, and so did not need to write letters to them. So most of the informal letters we have are from periods when he was away, either at Zseliz with the Esterházy family, on tour with Vogl, or at Graz with the Pachler family.

Schubert did keep a diary, but we do not know for how long. Some pages were salvaged from a book dealer who was selling them as souvenirs. There are a few diary entries about what Schubert did today, and others which are aphorisms or similar thoughts.
